Computer names

So… I’ve always had a hard time coming up with names for my computers. It’s always been something like “Laptop1″, or “ParentDesktop”. You know, boring crap.

So I’ve come up with a better system. Every item in my network now has a name from the Empire in Star Wars. Since I run everything from my laptop, it’s called Executor (it’s the name of Vader’s Super Star Destroyer). My server is named Death Star because it’s big… And my test rig is named Lusankya - another SSD.

Now I’ve just gotta come up with a name for my router… and yes - my router needs a name. It feels left out. :P

EDIT: Wow… the rest of life caught up with me… I’ve officially named my router HyperSpace. w00t!

    Hi Zxian,

That’s a nice idea to name your network component around a theme. I do the same here at home with a space theme. For example, my router is named Earth and my wireless access point are named Satellite, my computers names are planets, etc… My domain is Universe on my server SUN. Also at work the naming scheme is around water, river names, etc.

    See ya around at MSFN

Hyperspace for the router… hmm… could be good. :)

If you’re not overly attached to ship names, it seems that Coruscant would be kind of appropriate for your router…

Coruscant might be an OK name… but Coruscant is more of a place where things happen, people stay, etc etc. It’d be better for another server of sorts in that regard. I’ll use that for my next server box. Thanks!

Hyperspace is where things travel from one place to another, which fits more for the router. :)
